The Shelties ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL ARTWORK My love of Albert Payson Terhune and the Sunnybank collies, as well as collies and Shetland sheepdogs in general, has enabled me to create an original collection of note cards and envelopes that are available for purchase. The collection features a series of pen and ink sketches done from photographs of Albert Payson Terhune and some of the most well-known and best-loved of the Sunnybank collies. I have also created a collection of sketches featuring variety of Shetland Sheepdogs and collies in two different formats; pen and ink, and colorized pen and ink. Custom sketches of your favorite chums are also available. New Item: Refrigerator magnets in two sizes, 3 x 4 and 4 x 5, featuring your choice of artwork. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABOUT ROYAL GOLD SHETLAND SHEEPDOGS "A dog of uncanny brain and great lovingly loyal heart and, withal, a dancing sense of fun." Albert Payson Terhune Albert Payson Terhune used the above quote to describe the characteristics of his beloved collies. I have also found this quote to be very apropos in describing the Shetland Sheepdog as well. When I started working with Shelties back in the late 1970's, I studied all the books on the breed that I could possibly get my hands on, subscribed to the breed magazines, studied the breed standard, reviewed pedigrees, and went to shows to observe and study the characteristics, and qualities of these beautiful, intelligent, and fun loving dogs. My goals are to utilize and share this knowledge and to work toward the continued improvement of the overall sheltie. Keeping in mind the breed standards and over all characteristics relating to the temperament, structure, health, and function of the breed relating to their herding ancestry. In the 1970's, I began with dogs from the Sea Isle lines using selective breeding to make improvements in my line, and learning the various growth stages and peculiarities that the Sea Isle lines exhibited. Unfortunately due to personal reasons, I had to give up showing, and cut back. The last of my original lines passed away, in my arms, in the Spring of 2006 at the tender age of fourteen. Starting from scratch in 2004, I began going to the shows to look over what was currently winning in the ring, and studying their various differences. Comparing them and their pedigrees to the characteristics that I prefer, I acquired a puppy bitch that traced back to many of the same Sea Isle dogs that my original lines did. Waiting patiently for this beautiful little girl to mature, as the Sea Isle lines are very slow to mature, I've been handling a couple of dogs for some very special friends, and keeping an ever watchful eye on the characteristics that certain stud dogs were producing in their get with a regular consistency. This led me to the selection of Ch. Jade Mist Memorandum, ROM, ROMC to sire the first litter that I've bred since the late 1980's. Several of these babies are currently growing out here at Royal Gold. All dogs are tested for eyes, hips, and current health issues relating to the breed. All puppies that are not considered as show or breeding quality are sold with spay / neuter contracts. The dogs' future well being is my utmost consideration in placing any dog or puppy. I welcome any inquiries, and can be reached at the e-mail address shown below. I am a proud member of The Three Rivers Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Pittsburgh. Shawn M.
